How a ticket gets to Defra

  1. Record each load on the New receipt tab and press Save for the spreadsheet. It lands in the list below.
  2. Build the spreadsheet (button below). Your browser downloads a filled in copy of Defra's own template.
  3. Upload it on gov.uk. Open Report receipt of waste, sign in with the Defra account, choose the file you just downloaded.
  4. Download the file Defra hand back once it has been processed. It is the same spreadsheet with a waste tracking ID in column B (and any problem in column A).
  5. Drop that file into step 2 below. The tracking IDs go against the right records and they leave the Outstanding list.

Each load must reach Defra within 2 working days of the day after it arrived, so build and upload at the end of every working day. Built something wrong? Discard that batch further down, delete the file from Downloads, and build again.

Step 1 — build the spreadsheet

Step 2 — put the returned file back in

Drop the spreadsheet Defra hand back here. Waste tracking IDs (column B) are stored against each record, anything rejected (column A) is marked so you can fix it and build again.

Spreadsheets already built

One row per build. If a spreadsheet was wrong, Discard puts its records back into the waiting list so the next build includes them again, then delete the wrong file from your Downloads folder. Records Defra have already accepted are never touched.
